Gravity Bed Coolant Filters – Industrial Coolant Filtration Solutions

CoolantFilters.com delivers high-performance gravity bed coolant filters engineered to keep your metalworking coolant clean and consistent. These systems efficiently remove chips, swarf, and fine particulate from machining fluids — helping to extend tool life, reduce maintenance downtime, and improve overall process reliability.

Designed for precision machining environments, gravity bed filters provide continuous, automatic filtration with minimal maintenance. Each system offers durable construction, simple operation, and proven performance in a wide range of industrial applications.

How Gravity Bed Coolant Filters Work

Dirty coolant from the machining process is delivered — either by gravity flow or pump — to the top distribution tray, where it’s evenly dispersed across the selected filter media. As the fluid passes downward, gravity and hydrostatic pressure draw it through the media fibers, allowing clean fluid to pass freely while chips, swarf, and fine particles are trapped within the fabric.

As contaminants accumulate, a filter cake (or sludge layer) forms on the media surface, improving filtration efficiency until the exposed section becomes fully loaded. When flow through the media slows, a float mechanism gradually rises and activates a sensor, which signals the Bonfiglioli drive motor to automatically index the filter roll forward. This advances the spent media to the discharge area and exposes a fresh section of clean filter fabric.

The process repeats automatically until the roll of media is depleted, ensuring continuous, unattended operation. Clean coolant collects in the lower tank and is then pumped back to the machine tools — providing a smooth, closed-loop cycle of filtration and fluid supply that keeps your system running efficiently.

Index

The INDEX Series represents the traditional, time-tested approach to industrial coolant filtration. Using gravity-fed flow and high-quality filter fabric, these systems efficiently remove chips, fines, and sludge from both emulsions and neat oils ensuring cleaner coolant, longer tool life, and more consistent machining performance.
Dirty coolant enters through a diffuser and is evenly distributed over the filter media. As contaminants build up, the filter fabric traps solids while clean fluid passes into the lower tank. Once the media becomes saturated, a float mechanism triggers an automatic indexing cycle, advancing the roll to expose a new section of clean media. This simple, reliable process provides continuous, low-maintenance operation ideal for a wide range of metalworking environments.
Compact, versatile, and easy to integrate directly with machine tools, the INDEX model delivers dependable performance and quick maintenance the hallmark of efficient coolant management.

Autoflux

The AUTOFLUX Series from CoolantFilters.com delivers fully automatic, self-cleaning coolant filtration for high-volume machining operations. Designed to handle large quantities of coolant in compact spaces, these drum-style filters provide continuous filtration with minimal maintenance.

Contaminated coolant is directed through a rotating stainless-steel drum covered with fine mesh media, where solids and sludge are trapped on the surface. As the sludge layer thickens, it naturally enhances filtration efficiency until the liquid level reaches a preset point. At that stage, the automatic cleaning cycle begins — precision nozzles spray clean liquid from the inside out, removing buildup from the drum surface.

Collected solids are conveyed out of the unit via a bottom dredging chain, while the filtered coolant exits the drum and collects in the clean reservoir below. This design ensures continuous operation, excellent separation efficiency, and reduced maintenance downtime for even the most demanding metalworking environments

Hydroflux

The Hydroflux Series from CoolantFilters.com offers a deeper-bed, high-efficiency approach to coolant filtration. Designed for applications that demand higher flow rates and cleaner coolant in reduced space, the Hydroflux system uses paper media hydrostatic filtration to remove large volumes of contaminants with precision and reliability.

Dirty coolant enters the unit by gravity or via pump and is evenly distributed across the filter media. The contained, deeper-bed design allows fluid to accumulate above the media, increasing hydrostatic pressure and extending the life and efficiency of the filter media. This higher pressure enables more coolant to pass through while solids are trapped, forming a compact sludge layer that enhances filtration performance.

Once the media section is saturated and flow is restricted, a float mechanism activates the gearmotor, advancing the filter media to expose a new, clean section. An optional rewinder system can be added to neatly collect the spent media for convenient handling and disposal.

Clean coolant collects in the lower reservoir and is recirculated back to the machine tools — providing a continuous, automated cycle of high-performance coolant filtration that improves machining consistency, extends tool life, and reduces maintenance demands.
